Since GAGV began 5 1/2 years ago, we have grown from a group of 30 people, to an organization of more than 300 dues paying members and a database of 1,700 supporters who receive our information. We have worked hard to address the issue of gun violence in many ways, including the following:

  • Educating – with monthly meetings and newsletters as well as spearheading Annual Community Forums. (The 6th Annual will be Monday, October 14, 2019.)
  • Advocating – by advocating for gun safety through our Lock It For Love program as well as writing our elected officials urging them to support sensible gun regulations.
  • Participating – by attending events to call attention to gun violence, including the annual June 2 Gun Violence Awareness Day, and the annual December 14 vigil in memory of the students and staff who died and Sandy Hook. More recently we have participated in vigils for those who died at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL., by attending and speaking at events including marchforourliveskc.

While we are justifiably proud of our accomplishments , we know that there is much more to be done, hence our list of 2019 Goals. We are optimistic that the tide is turning, and we will one day live our mission: that all children will be safe at home, at school and in the community.
